Sorry about that last post, it was work in progress, and I eventually had to shut it down and abandon ship. Thankfully, the sea of ideas always casts something new afloat, and i was eventually able to catch on to it. I'm still making it, and it's a work in progress.

This is a special preview of my upcoming book. It is the craziest, awesomest, biggest fictional breakthrough in the history of breaking through! Read it and tell me what you think...

Red

Book One in the Abdavon Chronicles

Prologue

I ran and ran. I knew they wouldn’t stop until they either captured their prey, or were defeated. In my opinion, I’d rather defeat them than be captured and handed over to The Fangs. Dodging Espa boomerangs left and right, I knew it wouldn’t be long until I reached the border of the Forest of Light and reached the beach.

On the Border Beaches and on the shore of Lake Eternal my “hot headedness” was lowered to a very low amount of energy, so I tried to avoid going to those areas.

The world felt as if it was playing in slow-mo. Of course, that could be because my IPod was playing Move Along by the All American Rejects. Ha, ha. So I back-flipped onto a nearby palm tree to scout out the nearby land by treetop when...

BAM!!!!! A sudden force knocked me of my feet and onto a Border Beach. I looked around and saw nothing but the stretching landscape and the falling rock coming from the Volcanic Peninsula cutting through Lake Ash.

Then I saw the shadows falling on the beach. I looked to the skies and saw a horrible sight. The humanoids where riding dark fliers! Those sick, evil, and ruthless things had taken the beauty from those gentle creatures and had replaced it with evil appearance.

I was so angry, (mind, I’m always angry that’s what boosts my power.) I wanted to kill all those things and send their soul crystal back to their master in pieces.

So, did what came natural and said, “FIRE BALL!!!!!!”

A heated sensation flew from my hands landing on a flier. The hair on it’s back ignited and the creature and its rider fell from the sky and into the ocean.

If I hadn’t been on the Border Beach, the fireball would’ve incinerated them, but gladly the flier didn’t.

I knew that even if there was one of eight fliers down, I was in trouble with the ones that were on land. I looked behind me and saw the ocean. When I looked back to see what was in front of me, I almost gasped.

Squads of humanoids were directly in front of me. I was almost completely surrounded by humanoids. I was still mad about the fliers, and I kind of took it out on those squads.

In a matter of seconds, I had completely burnt down all of the humanoids but in the process, I burnt the sand so it was so hot it turned to glass, with the humanoids soul crystals in it.

As I turned around brushing my hands off, a knife edge was jabbed into my neck by a surviving humanoid with the face of a donkey, the body of a man, and the tail of a monkey.

A hiss shot through the forest making birds fly into the sky. It meant that the creature that was hunting me, had captured my scent, and was well on its way.

By the sound of the hiss, the creature was probably Srerdre’ the Viper, the deadliest member of The Fangs.

In the second it takes to jump, a man with very strange axes, a snake tail and a cobra’s flaps on his neck, with razor sharp fangs for teeth ran from the bushes stopping at once and looking at me.

“What’s up Srerdre the Diaper? Haven’t seen you in a while! Whatcha’ been doin’? Basking in a glory that isn’t yours? Ha!!” I said laughing in agony as a sword was pushed into my neck making a trickle of blood appear down the front of my neck.

“You sly doggy… You think you are so powerful, well I have a message for you and orders from my master.” hissed Srerdre.

“Oh yeah, and what are your “orders”?” I asked sarcastically.

“To kill you.” was Srerdre’s simple reply.

He waved at the humanoid to let me free. I rubbed my neck with fire to make the cut go away. Pulling my knives out of their secret sheaths on my back, I readied for a direct attack from Srerdre’s axes.

I jumped onto a layer of glass while dragging my knives through the sand, sending a spray of sand into the sky.

As quickly as I could, I breathed fire and created a half of a glass dome. Srerdre jumped inside and I quickly created the other side of the dome.

I knew that the dome would be easily shattered and I already saw multiple cracks appearing in the glass.

At least I can still breathe. I thought as I traveled in a circle.

Srerdre kept on hissing and shooting out his intensely long tongue. It was really starting to bug me.

As were the customs, we bowed to each other and got into our battle positions. My swords upside-down, I was determined to defeat this monster once and for all.

Srerdre unsheathed his axes and prepared to strike. Tongue flailing wildly, I knew that this was the end for either him… or me.

As he waved a final wave of his tale, Srerdre the Viper made an astounding jump into the air and slashed at me with his axes…

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I’m getting very, very, very, very, ahead of myself. I know that you want me to tell you the story from where I left off, but to tell you the truth, this part doesn’t come till the end.

I know, I know, you want to hear the story, but I need to start from the beginning.

My name is Chase Corritchi, and I like fire…

                                                      THE BOOK(S) OF THE MONTH!!!!!!!!!
Oh man!! I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!! Every time I read this series I want to meet Daniel Radcliffe... Never mind!! So, the first book, kinda' scoops you into the whole series and lets you find out what is happening outside of the moddern world and into a world of magic, floo powder, wands, quidditch, and (of course) evil. Voldemort (He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named) and his followers, regular school bullies, and the people at the ministry of magic. The second book was good for "THE RETURN OF HARRY POTTER" and the continuing of Harry Potter's adventures. The third book helps you understand how the series is going to fall into place after Harry meets Wormtail (Peter Pettergrew) and his godfather, Sirius Black.
The fourth book brings new and old enemys back to life, or back to fight. It brings together 2 other schools of magic, and an old tournament done between the schools, and brings He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named back in a new body. The fifth book lets you know about an old society that helped fight Voldemort way back when. It brings the Ministry of Magic to infiltrate Hogwarts and bring Voldemort into the public.
The sixth book lets you in on a few secrets about Tom Riddle's (Voldemort's) past and what he became. It also brings that terrible tragedy of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbldore's death. But, it tells us why and how Voldemort is partially immortallity.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was my favorite. It told the story of Dumbledore's past and Harry's future. If he is to defeat Voldemort, he is supposed to destroy Voldemorts Horcruxs'. Horcruxs' are a sealed part of someones soul o that if he were to be killed he would still be alive because of the horcrux. But in the end, Harry Potter kills Tom Marvolo Riddle in Hogwarts and marries Ginny Weasley.

A happy ending and I wonder what the movie will be like?
Whats your opinion of this series?

Mom's view about age appropriate books

When Henry finished first grade he read every Magic Tree House book and the first Harry Potter within the first month of summer vacation.  Then he kept asking if he could read the rest of the Harry Potter series and I said No.

Being the mean mom that I am, I didn't feel that my seven year old was ready for all of Harry Potter on his own, let alone watching the movies that went with them (that's the rule at our house, read the book, then see the movie).  Poor Henry got to read one book every summer until he got a little older and then I let him read two books each summer until he finally finished the seventh in 2010.

Is it right to hold back my child from reading books he loves?  I think so.  He has enjoyed Harry Potter so much more now than he would have when he was seven, he just gets it better and we can talk more about what Harry is going through.  Plus, here's my favorite part, Henry read many books he wouldn't have read otherwise, because all he would have wanted to read over and over were the Harry Potter books.  We read Spiderwick Chronicles, Magic Tree House, Horrible Harry, all the Bionicle books and others that were more age appropriate.

Having an excellent reader in your home is a blessing and a curse. Some parents don't mind letting there kids read whatever they want and that's fine.  Those parents know their child and what will be best for them. But slowing kids down is also OK. One article that helped me was by Rick Riordan, made me like him even more, called Does age appropriateness still have meaning.  It was a great look at what we are letting our kids read. Poor Henry still has to wait to read the third book in the Eragon series. One of these years I'll let him.

Mom's view of the Leven Thumps series

These are fun books for kids.  Some kid books are fun for adults as well, these were not my favorite.  The story was interesting and magical, but I think what was done in five books could have easily been condensed into three.  Like Henry said, it does feel like Leven is having one misfortune after another and it never resolves, what is the purpose of hardship if it doesn't get the reader a little closer to the conclusion, this felt like hardship for the sake of something to write about.  It is sometimes confusing to figure out what goes where and who is who.  That being said most of the kids I have talked to who have read them love them.  It really is most appropriate age wise 9 and up.  There are some scary parts that I think are hard for 8 year olds to understand, even if they are great readers.

Series of the week!

The series of the week is the Leven Thumps series
It was an exciting series with an innatural twist to human kinds future. A world of dream making, sycophants, and talking toothpicks. Yes, I said talking toothpicks.
I liked the first book, but the second and third were a little if-y. it felt like Leven ,Winter, Clover, and Geth were always traveling.
But, it builds up suspence and I am always eager to read the next book.

Mom's view of The Lost Hero

Like Henry said, Rick Riordan came to Salt Lake City in October 2010.  We surprised Henry and met up with his best friend and went to the signing.  It was a wonderful experience, we were there early, got front row seats, Henry was able to ask Mr. Riordan a question in the large group and was the second kid to get his book signed.  Mr. Riordan was lovely, funny and very kind to the kids there.  We were grateful he was so fun.

Now for my review.  Henry and I read a lot of the same books; it gives us something to talk about.  We have both read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and enjoyed them, but I think this is one of his best books so far.  There are three main characters and the reader goes between each of their points of view.  This is great because you can see the whole story with different eyes, but it can get a little confusing in some spots.  I liked that it wasn't exactly like the Percy Jackson series, but the style was similar and the characters were familiar, which made it fun to revisit Camp Half blood.  As a mom I would recommend this for 9 year olds and up.  Some themes are just a little too much for younger children.
